The opening of the new basement gallery took place on the 25th. May, exhibiting the work of Daniel Butler BA Hons.
Currently showing work by David Shackleton BA Hons-when the Arts Cafe is open then you can view exhibition(there is no charge & everyone is welcome!)
This was the culmination of a substantial amount of work and investment by the gallery owner Ms Anna Pola.
The artist, Daniel Butler, was present to talk to the many visitors about the theories behind, and processes involved in each exhibit.
The collection on display covered a wide range of mediums and techniques, and was of great interest to the general public; as the many comments in the visitors book will testify!
The exhibition ran in its present form until the end of October although content did vary subtly as items are sold and replaced with similar items.

ARTISTS STATEMENT
I have an ongoing fascination with materials and their textures, and this is often the main driving force behind my work and the reason I love to produce. It is the making process and the close connection to these materials which is most important.
It is often more about the journey of making than the end result itself.
My practice has moved on greatly from its early beginnings in wood carving and turning. Although they remain important facets to my work I have developed a broad range of complimentary processes and materials knowledge including metal, glass, resin, ceramics, plaster and rubber. I often combine several processes and materials within an individual piece of work.
This multi media approach stimulates my creativity and pushes the work forward, I like the challenge of a question that needs answering, a method that needs testing. My aim for the future is to keep on exploring the wealth of possibilities, pushing my materials knowledge which in turn feeds my creative practice; whether that be in a fine art or craft based context.
The work within this show is an eclectic display. It contains examples of several materials and processes that are utilised, as well as some of the winding avenues that my work has taken me down.
Some work shown is fine art based, some true to the traditional values of craftsmanship and others are created just for the enjoyment I find within making.
